Delivering Knowledge Services on the Cloud

Much of the focus on cloud computing is on infrastructure and software-as-a-service, as well as the security issues that are associated with public, private and hybrid cloud. With the ever increasing dynamic, scalable and ubiquitous nature of the all-encompassing cloud, new opportunities for process improvement and innovation, enhanced collaborations and information management at the enterprise and individual levels begin to emerge. This talk will showcase the early signs for these trends and discuss their implications to workers in the knowledge-based economy.

Keynote Six: "Thin Clients in Practice: Efficient and Flexible Provision of Virtual Desktops and Server Based, Cloud Computing for Cost Savings and Sustainability"

Modern centralized IT infrastructures such as Virtual Desktops and Cloud services represent an attractive and cost-efficient continuation of traditional proven concept of Server-based Computing and Application Service Provider models. In combination with a universally deployable thin client being the access device at front end, the entire infrastructure generates valuable synergy effects that can permanently cut the overall cost of ownership such as administrative workload, time and energy reduction, not only to data center but also to desktops; additionally to high degree of security and on-demand IT service availability. Nevertheless it needs to pay attention to the proper implementation of thin client computing which is far more than pure hardware rollout. We will look into the real practice behind together with example.
